Interview with E. G. Creel, Author of The Immortal

02 Dec 2021

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Immortal?

Starting as a dream I couldn’t stop thinking about, I decided to write a paragraph to get the story out of my head. That paragraph kept going and turned into 46,000 words in six weeks.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Immortal, what would they be?

Ivar enjoys The Beatles. I recommend listening to “In My Life” when reading Home Is Where the Heart Is.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Urban fantasy, and I enjoy a good giggle now and again.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Dark Family Secrets by Hoyt Hallford on Kindle Vella.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The ending was very satisfying. I also very much enjoyed writing the fight scene on The Bryony.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

Drinking a glass of water before I start. I feel like my brain does better when it’s not a limp wilted plant. And I imagine Neil Gaiman’s voice in my head saying, “There are no rules.”

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Daily disciplines add up. I’m almost 40 and I finally understand the story about the tortoise and the hare. Talent won’t get you to the finish line, discipline will.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

You are the hero in your story. You have arrived.
