Interview with Tegan Abbott, Author of Legends that Bleed

01 Dec 2020

What can you tell us about your new release, Legends that Bleed?

I’ve always loved insects and I wanted more people to think about their significance. I wanted to make a world that was bigger than each character, not just literally, but in their legacies. I also wanted to imagine a world without the technology of fire, and thus without metal. I wanted their world to be very different from ours.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

It’s hard to answer because I wrote my first book just after I turned 18. I was not a good communicator, so I think I wanted to share some things with those close to me.

What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?

The Reader, Servant Of The Empire, Liveship Traders Trilogy, Sabriel, Frankenstein.

What’s your favorite thing about writing?

The freedom. I’m in love with sharing different versions of our world. I love sharing ideas, but most of all, I love sharing points of view, and trying to see things from other people’s eyes.

What is a typical day like for you?

I don’t have typical days.

What scene from Legends that Bleed was your favorite to write?

I really loved writing any scene with an Aspect. They’re very particular about what they say, they chose their words carefully, which is a serious challenge.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you’re scared to death. – Earl Wilson.
