Interview with Molly Fitz, author of Dog-Eared Delinquent

24 Jun 2019

What can you tell us about your new release, Dog-Eared Delinquent?

Dog-Eared Delinquent features an amateur sleuth, her eccentric nan, and—of course—their talking cat who thinks he is lord of everything. In this book, a new arrival in town threatens to reveal our hero’s secret while also revealing a secret underbelly of Blueberry Bay no one had suspected even existed. It’s their most twisted, most dangerous adventure yet.

What books are currently on your night stand?

I’m blessed with middle-night insomnia, which means I wake up in the middle of the night to read a couple hours each night. I get through about 2-3 books per week that way, which is why this insomnia is a blessing just as much as a curse! My favorite genres to read are Cozy Mysteries, Contemporary Fiction, and Psychological Thrillers. I tend to rotate between the three. For Cozies, I’ve really been enjoying Mildred Abbott’s Cozy Corgi series and am currently about halfway through.

What advice would you give your teenage self?

It doesn’t get easier, but you get stronger.

If you had an extra hour each day, how would you spend it?

Let’s be honest here—work, LOL. In addition to writing books both as Molly Fitz and Melissa Storm, I also own six businesses, all related to the publishing industry in some way. This all keeps me very, very busy! An extra hour would be put to fantastic use. Do you have one for me?

What makes your world go round? Why does it bring you joy?

My five-year-old daughter and thirty-eight year old husband along with our six dogs and long-suffering cat. I love my work, but I love my family even more!

What scene in Dog-Eared Delinquent was your favorite to write?

Any scene with Octo-Cat is always amazingly fun to write. He’s such an over-the-top character, but also so perfectly feline. I love that I’m able to give him a voice and make him a main part of the action. One of the most fun scenes in this book is when Nan puts a bow tie on him as part of dressing up for company, and he just goes spastic trying to get it off. It… Um, may be based on true events.
